Kusasenrigahama
Located at an elevation of approximately 1,100 meters, Kusasenrigahama is a vast grassland formed atop one of the world’s largest calderas. It is one of the most iconic and beloved scenic spots in the Aso region.
To the east, you can see Mt.Nakadake volcano emitting volcanic smoke, while in the foreground lies a large pond—believed to have formed from accumulated rainwater—alongside the serene sight of horses peacefully grazing and roaming the plains. This tranquil landscape offers a deeply calming and unforgettable experience.
In summer, the area is covered in vibrant green grass, while in winter, it transforms into a magical white landscape. With its changing scenery throughout the year, Kusasenrigahama continues to attract visitors throughout every season.
Directly in front of the grassland is a visitor area featuring the Aso Volcano Museum, cafés, restaurants, and souvenir shops—perfect for enjoying local specialties and learning more about the region.
